The International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) have announced a joint invitation to their upcoming annual convention.
The International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) have announced a joint invitation to their upcoming annual convention, set to take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 7 to 10. For the first time in their histories, the two organizations will combine forces to host a unified global industry event.
The 39th edition of the IAF World Fashion Convention will center around the theme “Innovation, Cooperation & Regulation – Drivers of the Textile & Apparel Industry,” reflecting the sector’s increasing focus on collaboration across the entire value chain.
Organizers emphasize that the decision to hold a joint convention is based on the belief that meaningful progress in the industry requires coordinated efforts between all stakeholders, from raw material producers to finished garment manufacturers. In particular, reducing the environmental impact of clothing production begins at the earliest stages of textile processing, including spinning, weaving, knitting, and sewing operations.
Another key topic of discussion will be the growing need for accurate and transparent data exchange across the supply chain. As digital tools such as the European Product Passport and 3D design systems become more widely adopted, seamless communication between material suppliers and garment manufacturers is becoming essential for efficiency and compliance.
The Samarkand convention is expected to bring together a broad spectrum of industry participants, including fiber producers, yarn spinners, fabric weavers, machinery manufacturers, apparel brands, retailers, technology providers, and academic institutions. The event is being organized in collaboration with Uzbektekstil, the national textile and garment association of Uzbekistan.
Beyond the conference program, the event will also serve as an opportunity to highlight the development of Uzbekistan’s textile industry. Delegates will have the chance to visit local production facilities, gaining first-hand insight into the country’s manufacturing capabilities and its growing role in the global supply chain.
The choice of Samarkand as the host city adds a historical dimension to the gathering. As one of the most iconic cities along the ancient Silk Road, it provides a symbolic backdrop for discussions about global trade, connectivity, and the future of textile production.
In addition to the formal conference sessions, the program will include networking events, cultural experiences, and a gala dinner designed to encourage informal exchange between participants. A curated visit to nearby cultural destinations such as Bukhara is also planned as part of the broader experience.
Organizers have made detailed information available through the official conference website, including the preliminary program, accommodation options, transportation arrangements, and registration details. Participants who register early will also receive access to discounted hotel rates.
Representatives from both IAF and ITMF expressed their optimism about the upcoming edition, noting that the combined format represents a significant step toward greater unity within the global textile and apparel ecosystem.
“We believe that bringing the entire industry together under one platform allows for more effective dialogue and practical solutions,” the organizers stated. “This convention is designed to strengthen cooperation across borders and across different stages of production.”
The 39th IAF World Fashion Convention is expected to serve as a key meeting point for decision-makers and innovators, offering a space where strategic discussions, technological developments, and sustainability challenges can be addressed collectively.
With its combination of industry expertise, international participation, and cultural setting, the Samarkand edition aims to reinforce the importance of global collaboration in shaping the future of textiles and fashion.
